About Our ClassOur class is a warm, inviting environment in which we welcome creativity, ideas, and thoughtful resposnses. We have all discussed that are goal is to become better learners through the questions we ask, the process we take to gather our information and how we respnd to one another. We look at our class as a family and we treat each other with respect and expect nothing less.
In our class, you will walk into a world where students are challenged to think outside of the box and expand on their learning with looking for alternative solutions to a problem. We incorporate STEM activities/projects as often as we can to integrate all aspects of learning to develop well rounded learners. We begin our day with reading. Our Language Arts block is where we start off with a mini lesson focusing on a variety of skills while incorporating poetry. Then to guided reading, which allows me to individualize instruction that is appropriate for students on the level they are at. Our groups are flexible, meaning, they will not always be the since the needs of the students are ever changing. Next, we have math. We are using Engage NY to help guide us through our learning and it is requiring us to think about how we solve problems in ways that we may not be used to, but it is to our benefit. After lunch we have recess and come back in for our Science/Social Studies time and enrichment time. On Fridays we have our specials. Please make sure your child wears tennis shoes for PE. |
ScienceOften looked over but a neccessity in life. We integrate science through math, language arts, and our STEM projects.

TechonolgyStudents are surround by all forms of technology in their lives. Why not teach them how to use them appropriately and educate them at the same. Technology could be a tool we use in designing our activities, assist with creating documents, or providing engaging activities to facilitate learning.

EngineeringThis is where a child's creativity can take control. It could be manipulating objects to build a product for class. We may have to construct our response with materials that are provided to us and explain how we used the objects to come to our answer. Engineering may be incorporating discussion with peers in the classroom to better understand thought processs.

MathematicsWhether it is your favorite subject or least favorite subject, we all need math. Math is all around us in all that we do. My goal is to provide all students with a "tool box" for learning. They are to use the tools that I have taught them to use to determine which works best for them but also which one is the best one to use to solve the problems they are working on. This could be using pictures, manipulatives, writing out the problem, or using mental computation.
